Punggol 30Dec23

A Black-thighed Falconet was reported at Punggol Waterway Park on 28 Dec 2023 and then Punggol 17th Ave on the next day. JS still needed this SG tick, so that's where we went.

I arrived early enough to see it finishing up the last bit of the Aerodramus swiftlet it caught. Danny and JS came later and missed the bird.

Long-tailed Macaques were going on with their monkey business.

We went to Punggol Waterway Park to check if it flew there, but the answer was no.

We then circled back to Punggol 17th Ave, but it seemed the bird had gone into digestive mode hiding somewhere. JS will have to try again. Brahminy Kites were hanging around though.

White-bellied Sea Eagle nest also "hanging around", apparently for some years now.

Marina East 01Jul23

Danny and I went to Marina East today. First time seeing a Long-tailed Macaque here. It hung out with the House Crows.

Smooth Otters were hanging out on the bund, while Little Terns were flying around the coast.

Malaysian Plover couple at the breakwater as usual.

Medium Egret and Purple Heron in the wet field.

Red-wattled Lapwing also in the field.

Hindhede, Dairy Farm 20Aug22

Danny and I started the day's birding at Hindhede Nature Park. Here's a mandatory photo of the Sunda Colugo.

Here's a male Common Archduke.

At Dairy Farm Nature Park, this Long-tailed Macaque was having its favourite snack, potato chips, but wait this doesn't taste like potato chips, said the monkey.

Upper Seletar, Pasir Ris Park 14May22

Danny and I went to Upper Seletar and saw a baby Banded Langur.

Next, Pasir Ris Park. Male Oriental Pied-Hornbills were fighting.

Mr & Mrs Spotted Wood-Owl: junior, so old still don't want to leave??

Male Oriental Magpie-Robin: I can sing!

Dead snake attracting fishes: Banded Archerfish and halfbeak, as well as a knight goby that appeared to be feeding on the carcass.

Lor Halus 06Nov21

Today is Singapore Raptor Watch and as usual I led the Lorong Halus site.

Due to rain we started later today. Here's the ebird list before noon time.

The best bird today was this juvenile Eastern Marsh-Harrier that was very high up.

Oriental Honey-Buzzard also very high up.

Resident-wise, here's an immature pale Changeable Hawk-Eagle.

And Grey-headed Fish-Eagle and White-bellied Sea-Eagle.

Grey Heron came close for photoshoot.

Keep your plastic bags! Long-tailed Macaque alert!

With the rain caught up with us again, it's time to pack up for lunch.

As the rain has subsided, it was back to Halus. ebird list after lunch. Here's an Oriental Honey-Buzzard.

The Grey-headed Fish-Eagle was still showing well.

Lower Peirce, Upper Peirce 28Mar21

Banded Leaf Monkeys at Lower Peirce, right at the Casuarina carpark!

At Upper Peirce, a friendly Arctic Warbler played with me.

A couple of dragonflies: Dancing Dropwing and male Common Scarlet.

SBWR, LCK3 06Mar21

Danny and I went to Sungei Buloh this morning in search for Black-naped Oriole diffusus subspecies. JS was there too doing his Kranji Nature Trail census.

Adult Black-naped Oriole of both local subsp. maculatus and migrant subsp. diffusus are not easy to tell apart, with the key ID feature being the extent of yellow on the outer edge of the inner secondaries and tertials (more extensive for the migrant). Here's an adult Black-naped Oriole with a male Pink-necked Green-Pigeon.

JS then went to Lim Chu Kang Lane 3 and got the Green Sandpiper!

Off Danny and I went to LCK3, but we were too late, the bird's gone into hiding.

After lunch, Danny, JS and I went back to LCK3, but no greenie still. Next time..

Upper Seletar 07Jun20

After report of Large Flying Foxes at Upper Seletar, I went in the late afternoon and saw the 100 strong colony! Unfortunately, I only had my smartphone with me.

This Wild Piglet was foraging alone and oblivious of me.

There were also lots of Long-tailed Macaques around, including this young male looking very relaxed.

This older male was feeding on some plants (herbs?)

Look, this mother had just given birth. See the umbilical cord still attached! Amazing that the baby is strong enough to cling on.
