Hindhede 21Feb21

From KH

Reached Hindhede at 7am to chope a cross on the platform 1 metre apart. The Brown Fish-Owl appeared almost on the dot at 7:30am and landed on the U branch for a few minutes before disappearing. Case closed, finally, after 3 consecutive days of attempt... Here's a brown blob on the far away U branch for your viewing pleasure. lol

A shy Red-legged Crake looking for breakfast.

Hindhede, Rifle Range, Dairy Farm 20Feb21

From KH

JS and Danny got the Brown Fish-Owl at 7:15am at Hindhede today, but I missed it by 15 mins! We then went to Rifle Range for Green-backed Flycatcher and he's right there.

Next, we headed over to Dairy Farm and got this young female Wagler's Pit Viper.

And these butterflies: female Archduke and Common Duffer.

After lunch, I went back to Hindhede. Red-legged Crakes adult and juvenile were out foraging.

Incoming Oriental Darter!

Brown × Buffy Fish-Owl chick decided to take a stroll on the horizontal branch. Looks like I'm not the only one who's bored.

Here's a Rustic to end the day's nature watching.

Hindhede 19Feb21

From KH

A Brown Fish-Owl was spotted at Hindhede Nature Park 2 days ago. Con, Danny and JS all went yesterday, but did not see the Brown Fish-Owl. Con and Danny went again earlier today and got it. I went this evening and only saw the juvenile Buffy x Brown Fish-Owl hybrid. Yes, that buff blob on the horizontal branch.

While waiting, this Oriental Darter put on a show for us.

Astonishingly, a Straw-headed Bulbul appear from nowhere and tore the Malaysian Pied-Fantail nest apart, much to the distress of the latter!

Seletar 06Feb21

From KH

Danny and I started the day's birding at Hampstead Wetland.

The Oriental Pied Hornbills were nesting.

"Here's a piece of mud for house-keeping." says the male.

"Good job! A little fruit to reward you, dear!" he says.

Here's a glimpse of the female.

The Buffy Fish Owls were also nesting. Here's junior playing peek-a-boo.

We then headed to Seletar West Farmway and saw a perched pale morph Changeable Hawk Eagle.

And an adult Brahminy Kite carrying a huge stick, no doubt for nest building.

There were a few swintail snipes. Note pale trailing edge, not white like Common Snipe.

And here's a White-throated Kingfisher in the sweltering heat.
