Punggol, Seletar Dam, Seletar East 17Feb24

From KH

As JS had not seen the Little Green-Pigeon, we went to Punggol 17th Ave again. Danny and JS reached earlier and I reached later. No LGP, but Black-thighed Falconet was still around.

Asian Honey Bees were attracted to the flowers of Manila Palm.

Lesser Banded Hornet (Vespa affinis) nest and Tropical Tiger Moth (Asota caricae)

We then went to Seletar Dam for wader-watching, but only got 3 Common Greenshanks and 1 Common Sandpiper.

Lastly, sniping at Seletar End. Here's a snipe.

Here's a White Leadtree that's common along the peripheral of the grass field.

Dairy Farm, Hindhede 25Feb23

Danny and I started at Dairy Farm Nature Park today. We didn't do very well for birds, but we got lots of other animals.

Stingless bees nesting

Ropalidia stigma wasp. Common Flashwing damselfly

Episteme vetula moth. Caterpillar of some sort

Black-kneed Meadow Katydid nymph

Helicarionidae snail. Fejervarya frog

Next, Hindhede Nature Park. Oriental Darter was in the quarry as usual.

Sunda Colugo resting on tree and Common Treeshrew foraging on ground, as usual.

Not so usual, Lua's Cricket.

Hampstead Wetland 30Dec21

From KH

I went to Hampstead Wetland today.

The highlight was this Buffy Fish-Owl with all its antics. Here you see it staring back at me and showing me its kungfu stance: standing on one leg with a wing stretched out.

In this video, it was preening itself until a feather came off!

Lucky fish, it's too small for the owl.

I was focusing on the hoverfly and didn't realize there were ants in the curled leaves!

A couple of bugs: Cosmolestes pictipes and Ricanula pulverosa.

Here's a couple of dragonflies: Oriental Blue Dasher and Spine-tufted Skimmer. What are those eggs on the dasher's perch?

A damselfly: Ornate Coraltail and a spider: Carrhotus viduus.

Many of these critters were hiding in the Broadleaf Carpetgrass.

After that, I dropped by Seletar End to look-see, but there wasn't much. Only got Geometrical Lines and mating grass yellows.

A short afternoon stroll in Pasir Ris Park did not turn up anything unusual, but nice to get this Oriental Honey-Buzzard.

This stilt-legged fly

And this moth.

Petai Trail, Lor Halus 27Nov21

From KH

News of rarities came fast and furious: Amur Falcon at Lorong Halus and Pale-legged Leaf Warbler at Petai Trail. Which to go for? Headed to Petai Trail in the morning to try for the Singapore-first warbler of course!

Sadly no Pale-legged Leaf Warbler, but got a Sakhalin Leaf Warbler (5 kHz call vs the former's 6 kHz).

And an Arctic Warbler.

Here's a Saturn.

Here's a caterpillar.

What are these plants?

Next stop, Halus for the Amur Falcon. Can you believe it, it's favourite hiding place is the scaffold on the flat under construction!

After lunch, it's back to Petai for another try for the Pale-legged Leaf Warbler. Bingo, got a recording but no sight.

Here's a shy Arctic Warbler.

And a not-so-shy Greater Racket-tailed Drongo.

Epiphytic algae on tree.
