Seletar Dam, Rower's Bay 19Feb25

At Seletar Dam, a pair of Great-billed Herons were courting, but photobombed by a Javan Myna.

Just 2 waders, 1 Common Greenshank and 1 Common Sandpiper, at Seletar Dam today.

Lots of egrets though, 35 Little, 10 Medium, 2 Great, plus some herons, 3 Grey, 1 Little.

Danny and I went to Tuas South Junkheap today and 1 female Eastern Marsh Harrier was still around.

After that, we went around Tuas South Ave 16, but there wasn't much.

Seletar West, Hampstead Wetland 14Feb25

From KH

I passed by Seletar West on the way to Hampstead Wetland Park and saw a couple of Asian Openbills feeding in the wet grass field.


At Hampstead Wetland Park, a trio of Asian Koels were resting in a bare tree, with a fourth bird calling behind me.


A couple of Pink-necked Green-Pigeons looked on.


Long-tailed Parakeet was feeding on fruits from this tree.

More than a month ago, the female Oriental Pied-Hornbill was still sealing herself in the nest hole. Today, she's with chick(s) already!

Sungei Buloh 11Feb25

I dropped by Sungei Buloh for a couple of hours this morning.

Not many wader species, just 1 Common Greenshank, 1 Common Sandpiper and 100 Common Redshanks. Here's the Common Greenshank.


Only 1 Asian Openbill.

A Red Knot was seen yesterday at Chek Jawa and a bunch of birders (including Danny and I) went searching today, but no luck.

But got other waders (left to right): Common Greenshank, Terek Sandpiper, Tibetan Sand Plover.


And Grey Plovers.

Juvenile Oriental Honey-Buzzard came to see what all the commotion's about.

I went to Seletar Park Connector and got the usual birds and these Smooth Otters.


Along Seletar Club Road, an Asian Openbill was searching for snails.

Mt Faber 31Jan-08Feb25

When news broke of the second SG Hair-crested Drongo first seen on 30 Jan 2025, the whole birding fraternity fell in at Mount Faber. The bird stayed until 6 Feb 2025 and both Con and Danny got it. Alas, JS and I failed to connect with it.


Those who came early on 31 Jan saw a female Scarlet Minivet, but we were late. Oh, well.

I happened to drive by Yishun Neighbourhood Park and saw a huge flock of estimated 100 Asian Openbills circling the sky. First huge flock this season, also reported at Jurong.

Seletar Park Connector 17Jan25

I went to Seletar Park Connector for a walk and got Black-browed Reed Warblers and Pallas's Grasshopper Warblers.

Little Egrets, Medium Egrets and Grey Heron were enjoying breakfast:

Seletar Dam 14Jan25

I conducted Asian Waterbird Census at Seletar Dam this afternoon.

Wader-wise, only 1 Common Sandpiper. Lots of egrets and herons though, 30 Little Egrets, 18 Medium Egrets and 2 Great Egrets.

Resident-wise, 11 Grey Herons, 4 Little Herons and 1 Great-billed Heron.

Other birds that came to play include this adult Asian Glossy Starling.


Rower's Bay 09Jan25

I spend an hour in the morning at Rower's Bay Park. Besides the usual resident birds, there was 1 migrant Little Egret and 5 white egrets sp. that flew past.

Passerine-wise, there were Oriental Reed Warbler, Arctic Warbler and Asian Brown Flycatcher, all heard only.

Resident Smooth Otter came to join in the fun. Taken with handphone.
