Hampstead Wetland 08Aug25

I went to Hampstead Wetlands Park to check how Buffy Fish-Owl family was doing since two weeks ago, and got to observe the feeding sequence.

Dad tried to feed chick froggie. Unsuccesful.


Passed froggie to mum.


Mum made the move.


Success! Satisfied chick.


Male Ornate Sunbird also enjoying the buffy feeding time.

Jurong Lake 26Jul25

Danny and I went to Jurong Lake Gardens today.

Male Pink-neck Green-Pigeon feeding on Malabar Melastome (aka Singapore Rhododendron) fruits.


Red-whiskered Bulbul singing its lungs out.


A couple of Smooth Otters were very friendly, swimming towards the humans.


And allowing close proximity.

Apparently, at Hampstead Wetlands Park, the Buffy Fish-Owl chick fell off the nest yesterday and was put back up in a plastic container. One of the parents here attending to it.

Sungei Serangoon 20Jul25

I covered Sungei Serangoon for the Mid Year Bird Census, as usual.

Great to witness male Sunda Brush Cuckoo courting female in Yellow Flame Tree. He presented a caterpillar to her while still holding on to the leaf that the caterpillar was on.


She ate the gift. He dropped the leaf and serenaded her.


Red-breasted Parakeet checking me out from a Yellow Flame Tree. Nay, it's probably checking out the tree for fruits.


Blue-throated Bee-eater chilling out in Sea Hibiscus.


Female Oriental Magpie-Robin with white food(?) item in mouth.


This lone Smooth Otter getting ready for its swim.


Well adapted torpedo shape in its element.

Pasir Ris Park 05Jul25

Danny, JS and I went to Pasir Ris Park today. Bird-wise, just the usual.

Fish-wise, got Grey Knight Gobies and Javanese Ricefish.


At least 3 types of ferns on this Rain Tree: bird's nest fern, rabbit's foot fern Davallia and Dragon-Scale Fern.

Hampstead Wetland 03Jul25

Since fledging on 25 Apr, the juvenile Oriental Pied-Hornbills were still dependent on their parents 2.5 months on at Hampstead Wetlands Park.


Mum was watching over the juvies.


Mum: aiyo, why never comb hair?!


Dad has such long eyelashes that will make any lady jealous.


Buffy Fish-Owl: walao, here to observe the hornbills again??

Danny, JS and I went to Dairy Farm Nature Park today. Interesting to see a female Asian Emerald Dove that was ringed.

Singapore Quarry 14Jun25

Danny, JS and I went to Singapore Quarry today.

Singapore Quarry 10Jun25

I went to Singapore Quarry today. Rufous-bellied Eagle was still around, but no shots.

Grey-headed Fish-Eagle was more cooperative, even showing us with and without nictitating membrane.


Stork-billed Kingfisher was even more cooperative, perched in a tree right beside the platform.

Kranji Marsh 24May25

From KH

I went with 3G Lau family to Kranji Marsh today.

Escaped/released male Village Weaver still around performing courtship display but there were no known ladies of his species around.


Introduced Golden-backed Weavers have already established here for some time with many nests around. This male collecting nesting material.


What's up there? Aiya, just another Asian Openbill.


Malayan Eggfly creating more of their species.
