Danny and I went to Bidadari Park today. Finlayson's Squirrel doing well here.

Nice to see a couple of immature Crow-billed Drongos, this one more heavily spotted.

Blue-throated Bee-eaters were out in full force,15 on a bare tree at one point. Managed to capture 13 in a frame.

These 3 were closer.

Resident-wise, Blue-crowned Hanging-Parrot doing what else, but hanging.

Danny and I went to Jurong Lake Gardens today. Female Blue-crowned Hanging-Parrot came low to feed in a young Rain Tree.

Today, I did the Annual Bird Census at Sungei Serangoon as usual. Got 7 more species compared to 3 days ago.

Jambol Place 07Dec21

When news of a Black Redstart broke at Jambol Place, the whole birding community made a mad rush to tick off this new species on the Singapore checklist. It was apparently first seen on 28 Nov 2021 and mistaken as Daurian Redstart. According to ebird records, it stayed until 2 Feb 2022!

Nice to see Blue-crowned Hanging-Parrot here.

And Red-whiskered Bulbul too.

We reached Myne Resort in time for lunch with our guides Robert Chong and John Nair.

The first birds we saw here were munias, both Dusky and Chestnut. Here's a Chestnut Munia.

After a nice lunch, we had a siesta and then tea break! Only then did you get our first boat ride. The first mammals were saw were Orangutans - a mother and her young - feeding on figs.

Next, Silvered Leaf Monkeys.

Other monkeys seen included these macaques.

We got a few flybys.

A pair of Rhinoceros Hornbills (female left, male right) came close.

Blue-eared and Stork-billed Kingfishers are common here. Here's a photo of the latter.

An adult Lesser Fish-eagle (left) and a male Blue-crowned Hanging-parrot wraps up the birds on the river.

An Estuarine Crocodile was stealthily keeping its eyes on us.

Then, the guides got news of Pygmy Elephants showing along the main river, so off we went.

So we ended out first boat ride with a few key mammals under our belt. No sign of our target bird, Bornean Ground Cuckoo, though.

Back at the restaurant, it was about time for dinner, and to our surprise, a Black-and-red Broadbill was roosting on the eaves of the restaurant! We saw it earlier hanging out at the restaurant, but we didn't know it intended to roost here for the night. None of the locals knew either. Amazing.

After dinner, we realized that Bearded Pigs were showing up at the carpark area!

An adult male orientalis OHB was resting on a tree.

This Cattle Egret caught an insect.

Resident woodpeckers, like the female Common Flameback and the Sunda Woodpecker were also foraging.

The Blue-tailed Bee-eater looking out for insects.

The Blue-crowned Hanging-parrot seemed to be prospecting for a tree hole.

While the Red-breasted Parakeets were just flying by.

The only migrant songbird present today was the Asian Brown Flycatcher.

The male Common Iora was in brilliant breeding black-and-yellow plumage, while the female was a little duller.
