Kranji Marsh 24May25

From KH

I went with 3G Lau family to Kranji Marsh today.

Escaped/released male Village Weaver still around performing courtship display but there were no known ladies of his species around.

Introduced Golden-backed Weavers have already established here for some time with many nests around. This male collecting nesting material.

What's up there? Aiya, just another Asian Openbill.

Malayan Eggfly creating more of their species.

Dairy Farm 18May25

From KH

Danny and I went to Dairy Farm Nature Park today. Nice to see a male Asian Fairy-Bluebird.

And a Colugo.

Tampines Eco Green 12May25

From KH

It's been awhile since we visited Tampines Eco Green, so Danny, JS & family and I went there today to see the very confiding released/escaped Common Nightingale.

Introduced Asian Golden Weavers were still surviving in the grassland. Here a couple of adult males are bickering. Luckily, they don't compete with the local Baya Weavers for nesting site, as they seem to prefer the Neptunia plena grass patch.

Baya Weavers at their nest in the Acacia auriculiformis tree, with White Leadtree below.

Another Baya Weaver just chilling on a stalk.

Sooty-headed Bulbuls, Javan Mynas and Feral Pigeons feeding on bread.

As I walked on the trail, a Large-tailed Nightjar suddenly flushed and started chonking, at 10am!

Asian Openbill using saliva to cool off?

Hampstead Wetland 08May25

I dropped by Hampstead Wetlands Park this morning. The escaped/released Violet Turaco was still around vocalizing, but not showing.

White-crested Laughingthrush was also vocalizing, and showing well.

Seletar Park Connector 30Apr25

From KH

Morning walk at Seletar Park Connector with some Asian Openbill drama. Right stork to centre stork: Your snail looks bigger than mine. "Headless" stork: I'm going for the biggest snail!

Pacific Swallow: those idiots..

Buffet at the far end for Eastern Cattle Egret, Gray Heron, Medium Egrets and Little Egrets.

Pretty Anomala beetle.

Dead peacock bass.

Marina East, Mt Faber 27Apr25

Danny and I started the day's birding at Marina East. Nothing too exciting, but nice to see a male Malaysian Plover.

Next, Mount Faber Park. Not a single raptor for the hour we were there. Time for lunch.

Hampstead Wetland 17-25Apr25

From KH

17 Apr

Male Oriental Pied-Hornbill was still regurgitating fruits for the family. Female (top) and chick (bottom) can be seen in the nest.

Large-billed Crow came to kah-jiao (disturb), but the chicks were safely sealed in.

22 Apr

I finally confirmed that there were not 1, but 2, chicks in the nest. Female in between.

What's this? Bread for breakfast??

Cheeky chick attempting jail break.

Mama bird laying low. Must be tiring for her. Won't be long, mama!

Buffy Fish-Owl giving a kawaii face.

Female Laced Woodpecker searching for breakfast.

Nice fruiting tree.

23 Apr

Papa was still feeding the family.

One of the chicks eagerly waiting at the entrance.

Chick: I can't wait to get out! Papa: sit down and eat your breakfast!

25 Apr

On arrival, other observers informed that the chicks had fledged! Glad the see one of the chicks on a nearby tree.

Looks like they broke through the top.

This tree has served the family well this nesting season. Alas, history is not to repeat itself as the tree was fell soon after.

This marks the end of 3.5 months observations of the nesting activities starting from the first observation of the female sealing in on 8 Jan 2025.
