Marina Grove, Branksome Road 24Jan26

Danny, JS and I went to Marina Grove today. The little pond continued to support the Little Grebe family. Here's a juvenile.

Lesser Whistling-Duck chilling.

Ruddy-breasted Crake foraging.

A shy Little Heron.

Juvenile Yellow Bittern.

Most of them were juveniles. Here's an adult male.

Humped Bladderwort, a carnivorous plant.

Taiga Flycatcher continuing in the wooded patch of the pond.

In the adjacent grassland, Zitting Cisticola singing its lungs out on Neptunia plena.

Asian Openbill flew overhead.

As Danny has not seen the Common Hoopoe, we went to Branksome Road and the bird was in a different private property further down the road.

Seletar Dam 18Jan26

I conducted the Asian Waterfowl Census at Seletar Dam today. Wader-wise, only Common Greenshank and 1 Common Sandpiper.

Lots of egrets and herons though, mostly at the far end, but good to have them side by side for comparison. Here, a single Grey Heron among Medium Egrets.

Here, left to right: Little Heron, Grey Heron, Little Egret, Great Egret.

Raptor-wise, besides the residents, there was an Osprey on a pole far away.

Today is Mid-year Bird Census. I covered Sungei Serangoon as usual.

Grey-headed Fish-Eagle used nest in albizia (Falcataria falcata).

Brahminy Kite couple perched on Sacred Fig (Ficus religiosa) admiring the morning glory (Ipomoea cairica) on White Leadtree (Leucaena leucocephala).

Malaysian Pied-Fantail fanning its tail.

Smooth Otters: peek-a-boo.

Berlayer Creek 15Apr22

Danny and I went to Berlayer Creek today.

Houdini at work, now you see it, now you don't. Female Laced Woodpecker showing and hiding her primaries.

I've both my eyes on you! Said the Little Heron, which was previously known as Striated Heron, and previously^2 known as Little Heron.

Here's sticking my tongue out at you. I'm not that big actually. Equatorial Spitting Cobra slithering by the boardwalk.

Seletar Dam 18Oct21

I went to Seletar Dam and saw a couple of hundreds of Daurian Starlings. Somebody find me a cheeky starling, please.

Here are the accompanying Asian Glossy Starlings and Javan Mynas.

Wader-wise, just some Common Greenshanks and Common Sandpipers.

And other waterbirds, like Striated Herons and Little Egrets.

Bishan Park 14Feb21

Went for the female Cotton Pygmy Goose reported since 8 Feb and the she was still around! What a fabulous V-day present. haha.

Glad to see the Purple Herons still nesting at the park. Here are 2 chicks sharing a nest.

Throw in an adult Striated Heron for good measure.

Lastly, a male Common Iora to round it all up.

Someone released a Mandarin Duck in Hougang!?

It seemed to enjoy the company of egrets and herons.

And Zebra Dove.

Fishes, like this Peacock Basses was not bothered either.

Other fishes also enjoyed the canal.
