Seletar Park Connector 05Mar26

The usual Grey Heron, Medium Egrets and Little Egrets were joined by an Asian Openbill for breakfast buffet at Seletar Park Connector.


Collared Kingfisher perched on railing.


Lineated Barbet perched on Sea Almond.


Yellow-vented Bulbul on a clean perch.


Malaysian Pied-Fantail, a very confiding bird.

Sungei Serangoon 15Oct23

Annual Bird Census time again. Here at Sungei Serangoon, I got 5 Common Sandpipers, 1 Common Kingfisher, 1 Brown Shrike, 5 Arctic Warblers and 6 Asian Brown Flycatchers.

Here's the male Common Kingfisher with its catch.

The residents include this Black-crowned Night-Heron, 1 of 8 adults.


And this juvenile Malaysian Pied-Fantail.


Other animals include this Smooth Otter enjoying its fishy breakfast.


and this Loxobates spider.

Sungei Serangoon 09Jul23

It's Fall Migration Bird Census and I covered Sungei Serangoon as usual. The river, or what used to be a river before they dam it, is still good for waterbirds, like adult Black-crowned Night-Heron and juvenile Purple Heron.


Here are a couple of pied birds: Malaysian Pied-Fantail, male Oriental Magpie-Robin.


Adult Long-tailed Shrike.


Shy Common Tailorbird. Shyer male Common Iora.


Male Brown-throated Sunbird and male Ornate Sunbird sipping nectar from Brackishwater Mangrove Barringtonia racemosa flowers.


Ornate Sunbird nest.


Male Scarlet-backed Flowerpecker sipping nectar from?


White-spotted Slug Snake, usually found as roadkills, why? Here the foot-long body was scavenged by Carebara ants.


Common Snakehead with a cichlid.


Lots of other cichlids as well.

The canal was full of Hydrilla. Good hiding place for the fish?

Sungei Serangoon 16Jul22

Today is Mid-year Bird Census. I covered Sungei Serangoon as usual.

Grey-headed Fish-Eagle used nest in albizia (Falcataria falcata).


Brahminy Kite couple perched on Sacred Fig (Ficus religiosa) admiring the morning glory (Ipomoea cairica) on White Leadtree (Leucaena leucocephala).


Little Heron waiting for fish.


A very confiding immature White-breasted Waterhen.


Common Tailorbird foraging from Simpoh Air (Dillenia suffruticosa) to Shoebutton Ardisia (Ardisia elliptica)


Sooty-headed Bulbul adult with 2 juveniles foraging at Miagos Bush (Osmoxylon lineare)


Malaysian Pied-Fantail fanning its tail.


Smooth Otters: peek-a-boo.
