I covered Sungei Serangoon for the Mid Year Bird Census, as usual.

Great to witness male Sunda Brush Cuckoo courting female in Yellow Flame Tree. He presented a caterpillar to her while still holding on to the leaf that the caterpillar was on.

She ate the gift. He dropped the leaf and serenaded her.

Red-breasted Parakeet checking me out from a Yellow Flame Tree. Nay, it's probably checking out the tree for fruits.

Blue-throated Bee-eater chilling out in Sea Hibiscus.

Female Oriental Magpie-Robin with white food(?) item in mouth.

This lone Smooth Otter getting ready for its swim.

Well adapted torpedo shape in its element.

Rufous-legged Grasshopper nymph on Red Button Ginger.

Danny and I went to Kranji Marsh today. Nothing out of the ordinary. Here's a couple of residents.

Danny, JS and I went to Dairy Farm Nature Park. The only migrant was a female Yellow-rumped Flycatcher.

Residents included this Pin-striped Tit-Babbler and this immature male Oriental Magpie-Robin.

Some juicy moth caterpillars.

Sungei Serangoon 09Jul23

It's Fall Migration Bird Census and I covered Sungei Serangoon as usual. The river, or what used to be a river before they dam it, is still good for waterbirds, like adult Black-crowned Night-Heron and juvenile Purple Heron.

Here are a couple of pied birds: Malaysian Pied-Fantail, male Oriental Magpie-Robin.

Adult Long-tailed Shrike.

Shy Common Tailorbird. Shyer male Common Iora.

Male Brown-throated Sunbird and male Ornate Sunbird sipping nectar from Brackishwater Mangrove Barringtonia racemosa flowers.

Ornate Sunbird nest.

Male Scarlet-backed Flowerpecker sipping nectar from?

White-spotted Slug Snake, usually found as roadkills, why? Here the foot-long body was scavenged by Carebara ants.

Common Snakehead with a cichlid.

Lots of other cichlids as well.

The canal was full of Hydrilla. Good hiding place for the fish?

Danny and I went to Upper Seletar and saw a baby Banded Langur.

Next, Pasir Ris Park. Male Oriental Pied-Hornbills were fighting.
