Sengkang Riverside Park 22Feb25

I did the Parrot Count at Sengkang Riverside Park today. Got 17 Rose-ringed Parakeets, 33 Red-breasted Parakeets and 8 Long-tailed Parakeets. Here are 3 Long-tailed Parakeets high up after 7pm.

Coincidentally, some folks were free-flying their pet macaws, including Red-and-green Macaw, Scarlet Macaw, Blue-and-yellow Macaws, and their hybrid.

Seletar West, Hampstead Wetland 14Feb25

I passed by Seletar West on the way to Hampstead Wetlands Park and saw a couple of Asian Openbills feeding in the wet grass field.

At Hampstead Wetlands Park, a trio of Asian Koels were resting in a bare tree, with a fourth bird calling behind me.

A couple of Pink-necked Green-Pigeons looked on.

Long-tailed Parakeet was feeding on fruits from this tree.

Danny and I went to Kranji Marsh today to watch parakeet magic show:

1) One moment, top 3 Red-breasted Parakeets, lower 2 Long-tailed Parakeets.
2) Next moment, two of the parakeets have swapped places!

Bidadari, Telok Blangah, Henderson Waves 23Nov19

Danny and I started the day's birding at Bidadari.

The highlight was a Japanese Paradise-flycatcher showing of the clear inverted V demarcation on the underparts.

A Tiger Shrike also showed well.

Blue-throated Bee-eaters were still around despite their breeding season already over.

A pair of Long-tailed Parakeets were inspecting a tree hole, possibly starting their breeding season soon.

This being raptor season, a Black Baza (left) and an OHB came to join in the fun.

This is one of two JSHs that caught us by surprise - disappearing as soon as they showed up.

Someone reported a possible Taiga Flycatcher at Telok Blangah Hill, so we went there. However, it turned out to be a female Yellow-rumped Flycatcher instead. JS joined us in time to expose the imposter.

Next up, raptor watch at Henderson Waves. There were waves of OHBs and JSHs, plus an Osprey thrown in for good measure. The OHBs came mostly in waves of teens, with the largest kettle numbering 42. While the JSHs came in single digits, with the largest flocks numbering 8.

The star bird at SBG is the male Daurian Redstart (below), shown here with a Common Kingfisher.

It was also nice to have a Cinnamon Bittern flew by.

This Long-tailed Parakeet was enjoying the Simpoh Air fruit.

While these Black Swans were resting.

Finally, a Common Treeshrew to round up this short walk around SBG Eco Lake.

Chestnut Nature Park, Dairy Farm 01May18

Con, Danny and I started the day's birding at Chestnut Nature Park.

Long-tailed Parakeets were enjoying a feast: left adult male, right juvenile.

The Dark-necked Tailorbirds were bringing food back to someone. The male shows more extensive rufous on crown and face, and darker throat. The duller female has a spider in mouth.

Other denizens here include a snail and a millipede (Anoplodesmus saussurii).

Con, Danny and I started the day at Goldhill Ave for the Crested Serpent Eagle.

And we ended getting the escapees/releasees also: African Grey Parrot and Sulphur-crested Cockatoo.

There was a far away female Japanese Sparrowhawk perched high up.

The Lineated Barbets were much lower, and feeding on fruits.

Some of the other birds here included these Long-tailed Parakeets and an Arctic Warbler.

As well as, these Red-whiskered Bulbuls.
