Male Oriental Pied-Hornbill was still regurgitating fruits for the family. Female (top) and chick (bottom) can be seen in the nest.

Large-billed Crow came to kah-jiao (disturb), but the chicks were safely sealed in.

22 Apr

I finally confirmed that there were not 1, but 2, chicks in the nest. Female in between.

What's this? Bread for breakfast??

Mama bird laying low. Must be tiring for her. Won't be long, mama!

Papa was still feeding the family.

One of the chicks eagerly waiting at the entrance.

Chick: I can't wait to get out! Papa: sit down and eat your breakfast!

25 Apr

On arrival, other observers informed that the chicks had fledged! Glad the see one of the chicks on a nearby tree.

Looks like they broke through the top.

This tree has served the family well this nesting season. Alas, history is not to repeat itself as the tree was fell soon after.

This marks the end of 3.5 months observations of the nesting activities starting from the first observation of the female sealing in on 8 Jan 2025.

Berlayer Creek 01Apr23

This April Fools' Day, Danny and I visited Berlayer Creek, and saw a juvenile male Laced Woodpecker at his nest hole, still waiting for handouts from his parents.

Chinese Pond-Heron almost fully ripen. Time to go home.

Southern Palm Civet left its mark.

Danny and I went to Berlayer Creek today.

Houdini at work, now you see it, now you don't. Female Laced Woodpecker showing and hiding her primaries.

I've both my eyes on you! Said the Little Heron, which was previously known as Striated Heron, and previously^2 known as Little Heron.

Ashy Tailorbird: I pose for you.

Here's sticking my tongue out at you. I'm not that big actually. Equatorial Spitting Cobra slithering by the boardwalk.

Godzilla incoming! Oh, just our local giant lizard, Common Water Monitor.

Spent the afternoon walking around Pasir Ris Park.

Spotted Wood-Owl was still around.

Crested Goshawk was not seen, but the nest was still there.

Oriental Pied Hornbills were having a great time. E.g., this male was gorging on Macarthur Palm.

While this female preferred insect.

This female was just chilling.

A couple of male Laced Woodpeckers getting cozy in a tree hole??

Garden Supple Skink sliddering off.

Javan Ricefish enjoying what else but a swim.

Common Mormon fluttered from flower to flower.

While Golden-spotted Tiger Beetle dashed around.

Lots of grasshoppers!
