Danny and I went to Bishan Park to see the pond-herons. Some were still unripe.

Some, like this Javan Pond-Heron, were ripening.

Chinese Pond-Herons were in various stages of ripening.

Nice to see a juvenile Crested Goshawk.

Nice to see Stork-billed Kingfisher too.

Went for the female Cotton Pygmy Goose reported since 8 Feb and the she was still around! What a fabulous V-day present. haha.

Glad to see the Purple Herons still nesting at the park. Here are 2 chicks sharing a nest.

Throw in an adult Striated Heron for good measure.

Lastly, a male Common Iora to round it all up.

Local juvenile Purple Heron and migrant Brown Shrike.

Noisy Tanimbar Corella × Yellow-crested Cockatoo hybrid perched in Pong Pong tree.

Introduced Orange-cheeked Waxbills enjoyed grass seeds.

Asian Honey Bee collected nectar from flower, while Chrysodeixis moth used it as a rest spot.

I spent an afternoon hour at Bishan Park today.

Not sure if it was the heat that caused the birds to be more lethargic. This Black-naped Oriole was only slightly above eye level to me.

This introduced Orange-cheeked Waxbill also allowed me to get up close and personal.

The Purple Herons were doing well here. This immature was busy feeding.

While these chicks were still in their nest.

This Water Monitor shared the same stretch of the river with the immature Purple Heron.

No doubt because of the abundance of fish in the river! Sadly most of the fish are alien species. Here's a male Common Tilapia and a juvenile Mayan Cichlid.

Followed by a Giant Gourami and another fish.

And last but not least, adult and juvenile Nile Tilapias.

The nearby pond supported dragonflies, such as this male Common Scarlet and Variegated Green Skimmer.

Finally, some Lalang and Taro to add some plants to the mix.

I did some morning birding at Bishan Park.

First, a Cinnamon Bittern.

Then, a Yellow Bittern stalking fish.

Followed by a non-breeding pond-heron (left) and a Chinese Pond-heron assuming breeding plumage.

The adult Purple Herons were busy mending their nests or bring food to their chicks.

Some juveniles Purple Herons were still in the nest on the tree, while others had fledged.

This Asian Openbill was playing with stick?

This female Brown-throated Sunbird had food in mouth.

This Stork-billed Kingfisher had a fish in mouth too.

An exotic Magpie Mannikin to round up the birds sighted.

The most interesting non-avian creatures were these roosting Common Fruit Bats.
