Danny and I went to Dairy Farm Nature Park today.

A backlit Banded Woodpecker sunning itself.

An uncooperative Red-eyed Bulbul hiding from us.

Other animals were more forthcoming, like this Green Crested Lizard with dark eye bag. Bro, never sleep last night??

Cruiser not exactly close, but good enough.

Bukit Timah, Pulau Ubin 27Apr24

Danny and I went to Bukit Timah summit, our annual health check.

Just the usual forest birds at the fruiting Benjamin's Fig.

And a female Wagler's Pit Viper in one of the bushes.

Soon, news of female Scarlet Minivet broke on Pulau Ubin, so off we went.

No minivet, but Black-and-red Broadbill still around. Yes, that blur blob in the middle.

Dairy Farm 11Jun22

Danny and I visited Dairy Farm Nature Park today. Sleepy male Jambu Fruit-Dove showed well.

Its female cousin, Asian Emerald Dove, showed even better, just a couple of metres away. Can even see the bald patch on its wing.

I spent the late morning at Bukit Batok Nature Park. The White-crested Laughingthrushes put up a good show. It was also nice to have a Red-eyed Bulbul coming down low.

Midday at Bukit Timah Nature Reserve was very quiet, as expected. Here's a spider wasp and an Argiope spider.

And throw in a jumping spider too.

After a few hours drive from Mt Kinabalu, we reached Rainforest Discovery Centre.

The Canopy Walkway is a great place to see some of the common birds here.

Some of the Cream-vented Bulbuls here have red eyes! So care must be taken.

The Red-eyed Bulbuls actually have more orangey eyes here. Juveniles have dark eyes though.

The first endemic we encountered here was this male Yellow-rumped Flowerpecker.

Female Brown-throated Sunbird

Some have split the Bornean Brown Barbet as a distinct species. It does look different from the Peninsular Malaysia ones, which are called Sooty Barbets after the split.

Saw this broadbill nest, but no idea who's it is.

Wallace Hawk-eagles were common here. This was a juvenile.

Another raptor we encountered today was this juvenile Brahminy Kite.

There were also a young Orangutan (right) and its shy mother around.

This Green Crested Lizard didn't want to show us it face.

Then, we heard a pitta call - Black-crowned Pitta!

Today, we went to Sime Forest as JS needs Blue-rumped Parrot to reach Club 300. There were a bunch of bulbuls (Red-eyed, Cream-vented, Olive-winged), leafbirds (Blue-winged) and sunbirds (Van Hasselt's, Crimson, Brown-throated), as well as Blue-crowned Hanging-parrots, Pink-necked Green-pigeons, 7 Dollarbirds and Banded Woodpecker. However, no Blue-rumped Parrot.
