Hindhede, Rifle Range, Dairy Farm 20Feb21

JS and Danny got the Brown Fish-Owl at 7:15am at Hindhede today, but I missed it by 15 mins! We then went to Rifle Range for Green-backed Flycatcher and he's right there.

Next, we headed over to Dairy Farm and got this young female Wagler's Pit Viper.

And these butterflies: female Archduke and Common Duffer.

After lunch, I went back to Hindhede. Red-legged Crakes adult and juvenile were out foraging.

Incoming Oriental Darter!

Brown × Buffy Fish-Owl chick decided to take a stroll on the horizontal branch. Looks like I'm not the only one who's bored.

A male Chinese Blue Flycatcher was spotted at Dillenia Hut a few weeks back but it was kept hush hush by a group of birders, reflecting the sad state of birding that persists in Singapore..

Fortunately, the bird was still around on 7 Mar. I didn't see him, but others did, so I'm just glad he was still around.

I returned on 8 Mar and managed a good look at it! But poor and blurry shot...

Supporting cast included this Chestnut-winged Babbler.

This spider with its magnificent web was also there to support.

The first record of Fairy Pitta in Singapore was reported by Richard White and Francis Yap this morning near Dillenia Hut.

The news sent a frenzy of birders and photographers to the trail.

Danny came later and missed it! He had to wait till the next day to see it. JS went 2 days later and totally missed it!

Con was at Jelutong Tower, when Danny, JS, BJ and I went looking for the Great Slaty Woodpecker, which wasn't around today.

We did have a couple of nice forest birds coming to check us out though, such as this lovely male Asian Fairy-bluebird and this inquisitive adult Little Spiderhunter.

In the stream were small fishes, like these Saddle Barbs, while in the trees above the stream were a pair of mating Sumatran Gems.

After Jelutong Tower, we went to Dairy Farm Nature Park.

This female Asian Emerald-dove was going about not taking much notice of me.

While this adult Asian Glossy Starling was feasting on the fruits of the False Curry Leaf Tree.

Overhead, a pale juvenile Changeable Hawk-eagle was thermaling.

While this Greater Racket-tailed Drongo enjoyed watching people going by from its perch.

This Common Sun Skink caught a huge cricket!

Danny and I went looking for the Great Slaty Woodpecker which had shifted from BTNR to CCNR, and sure enough, she was here.

Along the boardwalk, a Haas' Bronzeback was pretty well hidden.

We observed this Orange Awlet (Burara harisa) pupa with its silk threaded through a dry leaf.

A male Archduke was showing off his beautiful colours.

After lunch, Danny and I went to Sungei Buloh. Other than, a few Oriental Pratincoles, a CHE, an OHB, and a WBSE, there wasn't much going on. JS was "pak-tor"ing at Eagle Point and only got 1 male JSH.
