Tuas 26Oct19

From KH

While Danny and JS went recceing for bird race, CH and I went Tuas. JS reported that the monarch was no longer around this morning.

As per last week, there were not many raptors at Tuas. However, it was nice to get a Black-backed Kingfisher and a Brown-chested Jungle-flycatcher in a wooded area.

SBG 24Oct19

From Danny

Black-naped Monarch was around, seen twice, skittish, no photo... It was calling before 9am after short drizzle, then renovation works started and it was all quiet.

Sengkang 12Oct19

From KH

This evening, I got to observe a rather interesting behaviour of a House Shrew.

Initially, it looked like it was wandering around, foraging for food.

Then, it started pulling vigorously at a strand of leaves from a tree!

As it wasn't strong enough to pull off the whole strand, it made do with a very small part of it.

Shrews are insectivores, so what was it doing with the leaves? Nesting material?

Tuas 12Oct19

From KH

Most of the raptors today were accipiters, with CSHs taking the lead, followed by JSHs and then OHBs.

Oriental Honey-buzzard

In the wooded area, the best birds were ABFC and CB Drongo.
