Halus, Pasir Ris Farmway 08Jan23

Danny and I started off at Lorong Halus Wetland, no grebe, but got a rude and uncooperative Jerdon's Baza.

Also got a juvenile Oriental Honey-Buzzard.

Large-tailed Nightjar roosting in the bush about a foot off the ground.

Black-naped Oriole caught a Golden-armed Mantis.

This female Common Bluetail is safe.

Next Pasir Ris Farmway 3 before locating the Litte Grebe at Pasir Ris Farmway 1.

Also got Little Ringed Plover.

Another juvenile Oriental Honey-Buzzard.

Immature Scaly-breasted Munia feeding on Cenchrus.

Introduced Black-rumped Waxbill and Common Waxbills also feeding on Cenchrus.

Hampstead Wetland 28Dec20

I spent an afternoon hour at Hampstead and saw the resident Buffy Fish-Owl taking a nap. It didn't seem very happy with my presence though.

Leaving it alone, I went to say hi to the White-throated Kingfisher.

The pond was full of Sharptooth Catfish.

The garden walkway was where the insects and spiders play out their drama on Red Leea. Here, a mantis looked like it was eyeing a jumping spider, while a Red-waisted Grass-Nomia looked on.

Jurong Lake 12Oct20

Went to Jurong Lake for Chinese Blue Flycatcher, but got other Brown-chested Jungle-Flycatcher and female Yellow-rumped Flycatcher instead.

Arctic Warbler - the dark marks on the orange lower mandible and yellowish wash in other parts of the underparts gave it away.

This Black-naped Oriole caught a huge mantis!

This Brown Shrike can only look with envy.

This male Common Kingfisher was getting ready to dive.

Coney Island is such a haven for insects. First and foremost, here are some of the bees. A banded-digger bee was collecting nectar from Porterweed before heading over to bite on a blade of grass. To rest?

While this male White-cheeked Carpenter Bee hovered around. From my observations, he likes to return to roughly the same spot to hover. Hence, I could point my camera at a spot that it has hovered over and wait for it to return.

Next, some of the beetles. What a shiny beetle Platycorynus robustus and a pretty Variable Ladybird Coelophora inaequalis.

A damselfly, male Common Bluetail.

Golden-armed Mantis vs Asian Ant Mantis - who will win??

A Phlaeoba infumata and a Javanese Grasshopper nymph.

A flesh fly.

A Dark-branded Bushbrown.

A Pelopidas skipper.

A few Lesser Darts.

A Cosmolestes picticeps assassin bug and its nymph.

A leafhopper: an Orange Sharpshooter.

A couple of Ricaniid planthoppers: left unid, right Ricania taeniata.

A couple of wolf spiders - Lawn Wolf Spider, a unid wolf spider.

A couple of jumping spiders - female Metallic Blue Jumper, a unid jumping spider.

A Rusty Millipede.

Not forgetting the vertebrates: a Bowring's Supple Skink.

And of course the birds, like this Oriental Magpie-robin.
