Petai Trail, Thomson Nature Park 05Mar22

It's back to Petai Trail with Danny, but still no pale-legged. Got Lesser Mousedeer!

Saw this Southeast Asian Softshell Turtle at the same spot again.

Male Crimson Sunbird caught an insect? spider?

Definitely not this Malayan Five Ring or this Telephone Sylvan.

Nor this handsome fungus beetle larva or this male Two-striped Telamonia.

Heard there was an Oriental Scops-Owl at Thomson Nature Park, so that was where we went next.

The mulberry fruits were attracting frugivores, such as this Olive-winged Bulbul and this female Orange-bellied Flowerpecker.

Mulberry is a term used for various species of trees which do not even belong to the same family. This one is Pipturus argenteus, sometimes called White Mulberry, confusing with Morus alba. It is sometimes called Australian Mulberry, confusing with Hedycarya angustifolia. I love the name False Stinger, as it's unique and the species doesn't sting despite being in the Nettle family (Family Urticaceae).

Thomson Nature Park 03Oct21

I went to Thomson Nature Park today. Bird-wise, there's nothing too interesting.

Here's a Dollarbird and half a dozen Red-breasted Parakeets.

There were tons of insects though.

Grasshoppers: Nisitrus malaya and Rufous-legged Grasshopper nymph.

Butterflies: Dingy Bushbrown and Dark-brand Bushbrown, and Chocolate Pansy.

While this Fluffy Tit preferred to hang out with Asian Honey Bee sucking Red Leea nectar.

Here's a wasp and an sugar ant.

Here's a fly, a forest cockroach and a leaf beetle.

Pond skater in the same pond as guppies.

Lastly, a Common Sun Skink.

Thomson Nature Park 20Jul21

I went to Thomson Nature Park today, and saw a juvenile Square-tailed Drongo-Cuckoo fed by its foster parent Pin-striped Tit-Babbler along Old Upper Thomson Road. As my camera has expired permanently, here's a smartphone shot of the cuckoo.

I was walking along the trail in the park when I suddenly realized that there was a Twin-barred Tree Snake in the tree beside me!

The bigger surprise is yet to come. I quickly whipped out my smartphone to video it. Watch the video till the end and you'll see why I said a bigger surprise awaits.

Thomson Nature Park 22Aug20

Con, Danny and I went to Thomson Nature Park to look see.

It was nice to see this female Dark-tipped Forest Skimmer perched low. The male has two light blue bands at the abdominal base.

As well as this Spine-tufted Skimmer.

This Prodasineura damselfly was a bit further away.

Male Dark Archduke showing dark upper tip on antennae, as opposed to the Archduke which has orange upper tip.

This flatid planthopper nymph was crawling on the trail boldly, while this Rufous-legged Grasshopper was clinging on to a branch in camouflage.

An Epeus spider showed me its fangs, and this is a blur handphone shot of the foam nest of a spittlebug nymph.

The highlight today was this mating pair of Wagler's Pit Vipers. Much thanks to Fin who showed them to us.
