Bedok, Pasir Ris Park 06Apr24

Danny and I went to Bedok to see the released/escaped Oriental/Eurasian Magpie, and it was there at the carpark, hanging out with Javan Mynas.

After filling it's stomach, it went to a tree in the Temple compound to rest.

Then, out of nowhere, a female Oriental Pied-Hornbill flew overhead. Perhaps signaling us to go Pasir Ris Park.

Crested Goshawk apparently completed nesting in this Rain Tree at Pasir Ris Park, but still hanging around.

Large-billed Crow harassing nesting Buffy Fish-Owl near pavilion.

Buffy Fish-Owl (indiv. 1) nesting in Bird's Nest Fern. Indiv. 2 on alert in response to the crow's harassment.

Indiv. 3 and indiv. 4 & 5 (juvenile on right) near Carpark D.

Collared Scops-Owl roosting at its usual spot.

Male Common Tailorbird caught a caterpillar and fed it to the juvenile (above).

Adult Black-naped Oriole also caught and devoured a caterpillar after removing the green gooey stuff.

Kranji, Neo Tiew 30Mar24

Danny and I started off at Kranji Nature Trail, aka new Sungei Buloh.

White-bellied Sea-Eagle juveniles in nest.

Great-billed Heron courtship display and catching fish.

Giant Shield Bug on Koster's Curse Miconia crenata.

Met up with JS and went to NSRCC Kranji for Citrine Wagtail, but it's gone. Last reported sighting was one week ago. 35 Eastern Yellow Wagtails were still around, including 1 of taivana subspecies. Other migrants were 1 OHB and 1 Barn Swallow.

Next, Turut Track, migrant-wise, besides Blue-tailed Bee-eater, got 1 Osprey and 1 Wood Sandpiper.

Marina East, Berlayer 24Mar24

Danny and I went to Marina East. No waders. Got a couple of blur (I mean blur shot of) Grey Herons.

Also got Blue-tailed Bee-eater.

Next, Berlayer Creek. Taiga Flycatcher still around, but did not manage to capture it on my sensor.

Male Yellow-rumped Flycatcher put up a better show catching caterpillar in Rain Tree.

An immature Crow-billed Drongo also caught on sensor.

Sungei Serangoon 09Mar24

It's Annual Bird Census again and I covered Sungei Serangoon as usual.

These year was good for pond-herons, got an Indian Pond-Heron, first time here.

And Chinese Pond-Herons in various stages of assuming breeding plumage.

I went to Petai Trail, but only got the usual birds.

Punggol, Seletar Dam, Seletar East 17Feb24

As JS had not seen the Little Green-Pigeon, we went to Punggol 17th Ave again. Danny and JS reached earlier and I reached later. No LGP, but Black-thighed Falconet was still around.

Asian Honey Bees were attracted to the flowers of Manila Palm.

Lesser Banded Hornet (Vespa affinis) nest and Tropical Tiger Moth (Asota caricae)

We then went to Seletar Dam for wader-watching, but only got 3 Common Greenshanks and 1 Common Sandpiper.

Lastly, sniping at Seletar End. Here's a snipe.

Here's a White Leadtree that's common along the peripheral of the grass field.

Punggol 14Feb24

A male Little Green-Pigeon was reported at Punggol 17th Ave yesterday. By the time I dropped by after work, the bird had gone into hiding.

On 14 Feb, Danny reach early in the morning to tick it off. I had to wait till evening time and was fortunate to connect with it, albeit ID shot only.

Con went the next day and JS went with Danny on 16 Feb, but no happiness. It only showed briefly on 15 and 16 Feb, and no more after that (four-day bird).

Marina East, Labrador Park 03Feb24

Danny and I went to Marina East. Just the usual birds, zero shutter count.

Next, Labrador Park. Luckily got nesting Coppersmith Barbet.

Labrador Park 28Jan24

An Oriental Turtle-Dove was reported at Labrador Park yesterday, so birders gathered there today. Alas, I arrived late and the bird went into hiding...

Back after lunch, and bingo, bird showed!

Con and Danny got it the next day. In fact, the bird stayed till 30 Jan (four-day bird).

NSRCC Kranji 13Jan24

A Citrine Wagtail was first seen at Turut Track on 7 Jan 2024, before it was spotted at NSRCC Kranji later in the week. Con and Danny got their year tick on 11 Jan, while JS and I had to wait till the weekend. So on 13 Jan, we went to NSRCC Kranji. The bird was first spotted at the grassy turf grass field up the slope. It then flew to NSRCC where JS got this shot.

As I've not connected with the bird, I stayed on while Danny and JS left after twitching. Happiness only came when it was close to 12pm!

It was hanging around the Eastern Yellow Wagtails.
