Pulau Ubin 17Apr21

Grey Heron caught a prey.

White-bellied Sea-Eagle came in to kleptoparasitise.

WBSE made off with stolen prey.

After CJ, we walked back to the jetty. Not many birds along the way, but we saw these insects:

Javanese Grasshoppers - adult and nymph.

Leaf-footed bug Mictis longicornis mating.

JS went to Kusu Island, but reported nothing much there, except for a repeated sighting of a sea turtle. Cool!

Pasir Ris Park 10Apr21

From KH

I spent a couple of hours at Pasir Ris Park today.

Spotted Wood Owl was putting up a show with one-eyed pose, and throat-guggling pose.

Sunda Scops Owl pair were resting, so I took a quick shot and left them alone.

Collared Kingfisher was nesting in a tree hole at Carpark D.

Yellow-vented Bulbul had already fledged, but still fed by one of the parents.

Here's 1 of 5 Arctic Warblers found all around the park, but very uncooperative.

Grey Heron was just standing around.

Banded Archerfish was having, what else, but a good swim.

Golden-spotted Tiger Beetle was running around, probably looking for food.

Vinegar crab was just hanging around.

Danny and JS went to Kusu Island and reported 2 unID skuas.

Seletar Dam, Halus 02Apr21

From KH

Con, Danny and I went to Seletar Dam and got 5 Commmon Greenshanks. Mega!.. JS was at KNT conducting census and he got 52 Whimbrels and 1 Common Greenshank. He also reported that greenie wasn't at LCK3.

The three of us then went to Lorong Halus. Nice to see that a Little Grebe was still enjoying itself there.

The introduced Asian Golden Weavers were nesting.

So were the local Baya Weavers.

A couple of migrants: Japanese Sparrowhawk and Pacific Swift.

Here's a non-bird - Lime Butterfly.

At Upper Peirce, a friendly Arctic Warbler played with me.

A couple of dragonflies: Dancing Dropwing and male Common Scarlet.

LCK3, Kranji Marsh 27Mar21

From KH

As I still need greenie, Danny, JS and I dropped by Lim Chu Kang Lane 3 for a quick check but greenie wasn't around.

Moving on, we headed to Kranji Marsh. Found this Large-billed Crow nest with 2 adults and 2 juveniles around.

Lesser Coucal sunbathing.

Clementi Woods 20Mar21

From Con

Female Black-naped Monarch at Clementi Woods. Others have got better photos of the bluish colour of the head of the bird, and I got some incredible looks also, but missed those photos. However, I was an early arrival, only Frank was there when I arrived, and I got photos that others didn't. I also heard the bird sing a few times. According to Wells, the immatures look like females except adult female has a brown iris, immature has a grey iris. Try to see this difference in the field! ©Con Foley

From KH

I had to work in the morning, but glad that I made it in time to see this one day wonder at Clementi Woods. By this time, after noon time, she was higher up and hiding.

This male Brown-throated Sunbird was a distraction while we searched for the monarch.

Danny and JS were on Kusu Island. They only saw distant terns.

Sengkang 17Mar21

From KH

Saw this interesting worm with stripe pattern wriggling on the floor.

LCK3, NTHL, SBWR 13Mar21

I went to Lim Chu Kang Lane 3 again to try for Greenie, but it's not there.

After that, I went to Neo Tiew Harvest Lane to meet up with Danny. We saw a Yellow-vented Bulbul feeding on something.

Golden-backed Weaver adult male displaying from his nest and immature male practicing building nest.

Next, we went to Sungei Buloh. An adult Buffy Fish-Owl and a juvenile were having their siesta.

During my evening jog, saw a Water Monitor tackling a Red-eared Slider.

And a Vieja cichlid swimming around.

LCK3, Upper Peirce, AMK St 53 07Mar21

From KH

Having missed the Green Sandpiper yesterday, it's back to Lim Chu Kang Lane 3 for another try. Alas, still unable to connect with it.

Next, went to Upper Peirce to look-see. Nothing much of note, except a Paddyfield Pipit collecting nesting material.

Lastly, went to Ang Mo Kio St 35 for lunch and escapee/released Vinous-breasted Starling was still around.

SBWR, LCK3 06Mar21

From KH

Danny and I went to Sungei Buloh this morning in search for Black-naped Oriole diffusus subspecies. JS was there too doing his Kranji Nature Trail census.

Adult Black-naped Oriole of both local subsp. maculatus and migrant subsp. diffusus are not easy to tell apart, with the key ID feature being the extent of yellow on the outer edge of the inner secondaries and tertials (more extensive for the migrant). Here's an adult Black-naped Oriole with a male Pink-necked Green-Pigeon.

Long-tailed Macaques - mother with baby

JS then went to Lim Chu Kang Lane 3 and got the Green Sandpiper!

Off Danny and I went to LCK3, but we were too late, the bird's gone into hiding.

After lunch, Danny, JS and I went back to LCK3, but no greenie still. Next time..
