Telok Blangah 23Oct24

From KH

Another day raptor watching at Telok Blangah Hill. Got the usual Oriental Honey-Buzzards. Here're 2 of 4, 1 dark and 1 pale.

And Japanese Sparrowhawks. 1 of 3, all juveniles.

Resident Changeable Hawk-Eagles, both dark and pale morphs, came to look.

Juvenile Dollarbird also joined in the fun.

Of course, there were also the omnipresent dark swiftlet sp. (Aerodramus sp.), inseparable in the field.

The bougainvillea flower beds were a magnet for munias, like this Javan Munia. They either feed on the bougainvillea shoots or use it as perch to access the Digitaria grass seeds.

As well as butterflies, like this Common Mormon.

Lim Chu Kang Lane 3, Neo Tiew Harvest Lane 14Jan23

From KH

Green Sandpiper was reported to be back at Lim Chu Kang Lane 3 canal, so it was mandatory for Danny and I to head there this weekend. But we only saw the usual Wood Sandpipers and Common Sandpipers. Here's one of the Woodies.

Eastern Yellow Wagtail was also here.

Some Javan Munias were feeding in the Cenchrus grass.

2 snipes in front of waterlilies.

After that, we went to Neo Tiew Harvest Lane, but nothing much. Makan time.

Telok Blangah Hill Park 29Oct21

From KH

Another day of raptor watch at Telok Blangah Hill. This time some Japanese Sparrowhawks and Oriental Honey-Buzzards.

Brown-throated Sunbird drinking nectar from Rain Tree.

Javan Munia feeding on grass seed.

Common Mormon sipping nectar from Bougainvillea flower. Do you know the pink petals are modified leaves called bracts?

The most interesting observation for me today was carpenter bees chasing House Swift! Sorry no photos.

Telok Blangah Hill Park 28Oct21

From KH

Raptor watch at Telok Blangah Hill today. Great to see a couple of migrant raptors: Chinese Sparrowhawk and a Grey-faced Buzzard.

Also a migrating Pacific Swift.

When there were no migrants, residents kept the day going, such as these Black-naped Oriole, and not just 1 Dollarbird, but 4!

Pink-necked Green-Pigeons and this lone Thick-billed Green-Pigeon favoured the flowering tree.

Common Tailorbird and Yellow-vented Bulbul preferred the low Bougainvillea bush.

Javan Munias also came to join the fun.

Neo Tiew 27Dec20

From KH

I started the day's birding at Lim Chu Kang Lane 3 still hoping for Green Sandpiper, but only got Wood Sandpipers.

Asian Openbill was still around and mingling with Intermediate Egret.

Javan Munias visited the canal for the grass seeds.

On the way out, saw an OHB perched on the tall tree.

At Neo Tiew Harvest Lane, saw another couple of OHBs, and this pale Changeable Hawk-Eagle.

Met up with Danny at Bollywood Veggies. Nothing much, just some insects and tadpoles.

Scarlet Basker

Back at Harvest Lane, now also with Con, a Baillon's Crake showed.

Along the canal at Kranji Reservoir Park, there were many dragonflies.
