Sungei Buloh 14Oct24

Mt Faber 13Oct24

Danny and I joined the raptor watchers at Mount Faber today.

The first migrant raptor was a Chinese Sparrowhawk, 1 of 3 in total. Here are 2 of them later in the morning.


Next was a Japanese Sparrowhawk. Here are 2 of 16 that came in singles or pairs throughout the morning.


Then came the Oriental Honey-Buzzards. Here's 1 of 11 throughout the morning.


Finally, the star bird, a Besra, made an appearance at 1050hrs. No shutter count from me, but others got photos.

There was also the supporting cast of migrating Pacific Swift, Blue-tailed Bee-eaters and Barn Swallows.

Sungei Serangoon 12Oct24

Starting at Lorong Halus, just the usual resident birds.

Cross the bridge to Punggol East, the only migrant was a non-breeding pond-heron imitating the lamppost.


Next, Sengkang stretch of Sungei Serangoon. 4 migrant species: Common Sandpiper, Little Egret, Arctic Warbler and Asian Brown Flycatcher.

Back at Punggol East, the only migrants now were 5 Barn Swallows.

Lastly, back at Lorong Halus, migrants: Common Sandpiper, Blue-tailed Bee-eater, Barn Swallow, Asian Brown Flycatcher. Here are the bee-eaters in a tree.

A short hour at Lorong Halus turned up the usual suspects, including a pale morph Changeable Hawk-Eagle.

Seletar Dam 10Oct24

From KH

At Seletar Dam, just 4 Common Sandpipers and 3 Little Egrets. Other migrants were 2 Barn Swallows and 1 Asian Brown Flycatcher.

Resident bird wise, it was interesting to see a male Red-breasted Parakeet eating leaf, instead of fruits.


Next at Rower's Bay, just the usual resident birds.

Seletar Dam, Khatib Bongsu 09Oct24

At Seletar Dam, only migrants were 4 Common Sandpipers and 5 Little Egrets.

Resident Collared Kingfisher posed for photo.


Moving on to Khatib Bongsu, got another 2 Common Sandpipers.

Resident White-throated Kingfisher caught an insect.


The only other migrants were 2 Grey Wagtails in a canal catching flies.

Back at Seletar Dam, left 1 Common Sandpiper and 1 Little Egret.

Seletar Dam, Hampstead Wetland 08Oct24

Low tide at Seletar Dam, but the only waders were 1 Eurasian Whimbrel and 2 Common Sandpipers. Here's the faraway whimbrel.

Seletar Dam 07Oct24

Another quick check at Seletar Dam in the evening revealed 0 wader! The only migrants around were 1 Little Egret and 1 Barn Swallow.

Nonetheless, the Grey Herons were enjoying their dinner.

Seletar Dam, Sengkang Riverside Park 07Oct24

A quick check at Seletar Dam in the morning revealed only 1 wader, a Common Sandpiper. The only other migrants were 20 Little Egrets.

Next, Sengkang Riverside Park. The only migrants were 3 very vocal Asian Brown Flycatchers.

Batam pelagic 05Oct24

Danny, JS and I went on a pelagic trip at Batam again. This time with James Hogg.

Setting off from Harbour Front, in Singapore waters, we logged 2 Bridled Terns, 2 Great Crested Terns, 5 Little Terns and 4 Swinhoe's Storm-Petrels. Good start for pelagic.

In Indonesian waters off Batam, we got a good haul of 249 Swinhoe's Storm-Petrels, as well as 1 Aleutian Tern, 2 Gull-billed Terns, 2 Great Crested Terns, 4 Little Terns and 30 Bridled Terns.


Back in Singapore waters, 2 Aleutian Terns, 2 Great Crested Terns and 20 Little Terns.

Mt Faber 28Sep24

Danny and I went to Mount Faber for any early migrant raptors. Just 3 OHBs and 3 accipitrine hawks.

1 of 3 Oriental Honey-Buzzards.


Resident raptors included this pale Changeable Hawk-Eagle.


and this juvenile Brahminy Kite.


A couple of spiders to round it up: Jade Jumping Spider and wall jumping spider.

Kranji Marsh 21Sep24

Danny and I went to Kranji Marsh today to watch parakeet magic show:

1) One moment, top 3 Red-breasted Parakeets, lower 2 Long-tailed Parakeets.
2) Next moment, two of the parakeets have swapped places!
