I personally saw or heard 141 species (including 26 endemics), 40 of them lifers.

Highlights included 2 Black headed Pittas at Kinabatangan; Everett's Thrush, Whitehead's Trogon (male and female) and Mountain Scops Owl at Mt. Kinabalu.and Black-breasted Fruithunter (Male, Female and juvenile) at Rafflesia Centre. Saw the Bornean Ground-Cuckoo also but it was running away, fast.

Signature bird of Mount Kinabalu - not shy at all. Very common and confiding. (Indigo Flycatcher)


This fella was happily singing along the river side. (Striped Wren Babbler)


We were "anchored" along the river bank when this bird appeared out of the murky water - I wonder how it does its fishing in those waters. (Oriental Darter)

A juvenile seen at Poring. as with all juveniles - totally unafraid, allowing full frame shot. (Little Spiderhunter)

These fellas come in small flocks of 4-5 at Poring. (Buff-rumped Woodpecker)

A Mt. Kinabalu bird. (White-crowned Forktail)


Spent 1.5 hours on a windy night before finally getting to see this owl! Fantastic thing is that this individual seems to be the only one known (anywhere) to be responsive to playback! (Mountain Scops Owl)


Looks and calls/sings differently from Fraser's Hill birds. (Chestnut-capped Laughing Thrush (bornean race))
