Poyan 12-31May08
From ConI went by the Large-tailed Nighjar site this morning (20May), and walked to within 2 meters of the female sitting on the nest. She didn't flush. This is very different behavior from prior occassions when she would flush when you got to around 4 meters. This must mean she is brooding hatchlings. I didn't want to come any closer, but I think she would not fly unless I stepped on her.
I saw eggs on 12May, so these eggs have hatched sometime between then and now. According to the article by Lamont, the time from hatching to fledging is about 20 days.
I think I'll go back some evening and try to watch the feeding, supposedly they will only feed the chicks at night.
By 31May, the nest was empty.
