Lower Peirce 04-05Mar09

From Danny on 4 Mar
Taking advantage of drier weather, was at Y junction this evening, the Chinese Flycatcher was back and after a refreshing bath, it perched relatively open, preening itself allowing both Mark Chua & Johnny Wee to take pics. The usual Short-tailed Babblers and Siberian Blue Robins were around. The LMD was sighted but in the valley this evening. The BBKF was still roosting at the same low tree in the middle of the valley when I left but no sign of the crake or warbler.

Incidentally, Johnny got his blue-eared kf around where the dead turtles were on the same day we smell them.

From Con on 5 Mar
Mark Chua was also there again, and so was the same Green-backed Flycatcher. Not a very good picture as the light was low & I have some motion blur. Not much of the belly is showing.

The Red-legged Crake was also taking a bath, and Short-tailed Babblers, didn't see Abbott's or Slaty-legged Crake. The Lesser Mouse Deer, probably the same female showed up and was very friendly staying in view for 20 minutes or so, but very dark, no photos. Finally the ODKF showed up and did some diving and then perched for the evening to go to sleep.

Very nice show. The Collared Scops Owl also called, but didn't see.
