Changi, SBWR 09-10Aug08

From Danny

On 9 Aug Saturday on the way to SAF Yacht Club, found barrier at LP 148 wide open with SUV heading towards the bike tracks. Went straight in and contacted Con to join up. Not many waders except about 30 Lesser Sand-plovers (some long bill races but bill not thick enough to be greater) and many juvenile and adult Malaysian Plovers. Over at the canal mouth, there were a few more species like Marsh SP, Common SP and the usual birds like pipits, cisticolas, BK, BSK... Try to get into Pulau Punggol and Khatib after lunch but both gates were locked.

On 10 Aug Sunday evening went by Sungei Buloh. The earlier reported waders were there, nothing unusual except for a pair of Copper-throated Sunbirds at Platform 2 and live Olive-backed Sunbird nest at end of Main Bridge (Main Hide end).

Lesser Sand Plovers - some with breeding colour

Male Malaysian Plover

Common Redshank - foot ringed, lightly webbed red feet with hind toe and black toe nails
