Changi 13Mar11
From Con
Danny & I meet at Tanah Merah Coast Road to follow up on the tip from Gim Cheong about possible Grey-faced Buzzards. Not seeing much of anything around we entered the wooded side of Changi Cove via the usual entrance.
Almost immediately upon entering we flushed three Jerdon's Bazas who flew from tree to tree and then circled in the sky before moving off and we lost them. Some pics below.
Unless anyone comes up with a later sighting, I suppose this must be a new late date !

I looked through my pictures and interestingly this Baza was carrying it's lunch when it flew off. http://www.pbase.com/con_foley/image/133246075
and I think this Baza is a different individual because the wear on the primaries is a bit different. http://www.pbase.com/con_foley/image/133246076
From Danny
Refer your pics (822 and 075), probably a sub-adult bird and first time heard it's call, a single note that ended like a whistle. The long and unbroken mesial stripe suggested a male.
The other 2 pics (823 and 824) are the same bird, the worn primaries are indicative, an adult female - notice the even banded tips from primaries to secondaries, male has uneven banded tips with relatively thicker/darker tips around secondaries. 076 is another adult female.
Birds seen as listed below. Noticeable absence was the Common Buzzard and the CHE, no call at all? As for CHE nest, only possible area was the small forested area (location w/o Casuarina trees) where we saw the Koels and Drongos previously but no sign of nest as we drove by.
1) Jerdon's Baza - 3 (2 adult females, 1 subadult male)
2) Brahminy Kite - 3 adults; 1 subadult
3) WBSE - 2
4) Chinese Goshawk - 1 adult male
5) CW Cuckoo - 1
6) BSK - 3
7) OHB - 1
8) RB Crake - 1 Con's crake bathing in the middle of path towards fallen tree (other birds taking bath were YV bulbuls, waterhen, lesser coucals)
