Singapore Strait 10Mar12

From Colin

Our first pelagic of the season yesterday was very quiet. We headed west this time into an area we'd not been to before with the intention of looking for Aleutian Terns in the same waters between Singapore and Karimun and at the same time of year where Kok Hui, Danny, Jia Sheng and Con had seen them from the ferry a few years back. We ended up seeing only one, possibly three, in a very brief fly past in the middle of the Strait. Apart from that there were small numbers of Great and Lesser Crested Terns moving east, a number of paired up Black-naped Terns, and perhaps most surprisingly the numbers of Little Terns moving east early in the morning, which numbered around 150.

Here's a map of the route for any interested, it basically followed where the shipping lane meets Indonesia.
