Taman Negara 15-18Apr08

From GC

Highlights – Garnet Pitta, Banded Pitta, Large Wren-Babbler, Spotted Fantail, Brown-chested Flycatcher, Black-throated Babbler, Rufous-bellied Eagle, 10 Crested Fireback, Crested Wood-Partridge

During the 2nd morning, we heard the Pitta calling in the gully at Yong Hide but it just won't show. On the 3rd morning, we tried Jenut Muda as the most recent sighting was from there, but nary a call was heard! After quite a bit of discussion and consideration, we decided to try the Telinga-Blau/Yong hide area in the afternoon. It was a quiet walk to the Telinga Cave and nothing. On the way back to Yong, the distinctive call was heard in the bushes. It was now or never, so we bashed into the forest and i saw it after 20 mins and nailed a pic after another 30 mins of hide and seek!

This Large Wren-Babbler was encountered in a Babbler bird wave.
