Southern Ridges, SBWR, NTL2 23Jan11
From KHToday, Dingli and I surveyed the Southern Ridges for CHE nests. We started off at Kent Ridge, but the place only gave us separately 1 Japanese Sparrowhawk and 1 Brahminy Kite in flight. Next at Telok Blangah, we did not see any raptor. While walking to Mt Faber on the Henderson Wave, 2 OHBs flew above us towards TB. At MF, we were glad to locate the old nest with a CHE hiding in the nest! We believe it was incubating.
As Dingli got news of a Caspian Tern at Mandai Mudflat, we headed there and got a pale CHE flying high above the railway track on Kranji Road. At MM, the tide was already quick high and so there was not a single tern around. We went over to the coffeeshop for lunch and met Kim Keang and gang there.
After lunch, I decided to carry on birding at SBWR. There was only an Osprey perching at the kelong visible from the boardwalk outside SBWR carpark.
Moving on to NTL2, I was surprised to locate 2 nests. A pair of GHFE were perching above their nest. Within 100 m before the GHFE nest, a pale CHE was sitting in its nest. I believe this was the same nest we saw a couple of seasons back. This CHE remained in the nest calling from time to time, while another pale CHE circled around me a couple of times.
