Punggol 14May06
From Danny
On Sunday evening, I went with JS to recce Sungei Serangoon but too many fishermen around, instead went over to Punggol drain. Again spotted snipes in the drain but this time Greater Painted-snipes, both male & female. From the last few observations, realised these shy snipes seem to take cue from the White-breasted Waterhens. They will be around whenever the waterhens are safe to feed in the open. They were oblivious to passing cars, motorcycles, bicycles but highly sensitive to human voice - we had to signal & waved off inquiring motorists while stalking the snipes.
