Mt Faber 31May09

From Danny

I took these pics today 12 noon at Mt Faber. First sighted one Cockatoo outside nest hole, went to ferry scope, bird gone. Waited half an hour, instead of one, two cockatoos came out from nest.

Refer to photo below, notice bird on left is relatively smaller with reddish eyes, yellow ear covert, smaller bill - female Yellow-crested Cockatoo. Bird on right has brownish eyes, thin blue eye-ring, yellow wash undertail covert, bigger bill - male Sulphur-crested Cockatoo. Potential hybrid breeding in the wild. Before I left, male went back into nest and female flew off. According to info from website both sexes take turn to incubate egg, 60 days to hatch & another 60 more days in nest.
