Little Guilin 16Jul08

From Danny

Drop by above in the evening around 5.30 pm. First raptor spotted was an OHB - pale juvenile with distinct yellow cere, guess not mature enough for breeding and stay behind.

Went over to the edge of open quarry near to stadium corner, spotted a pair of Grey Headed Fish-eagles with a single fledged juvenile - total 3.

This is the best time to view them as the juvenile still not ready to hunt for probably another 2 to 3 weeks. Park at Blk 524 (worth 50 cent coupon) and carry your bazooka across road to the edge of the quarry. Not sure about morning but this evening, good birding.

Adult Grey-headed Fish-eagle with fish in talons.

Juvenile GHFE looking at its parent for food?

The young GHFE has brown eyes instead of yellow for the adult. The talons of the young eagle like just been manicured, apparently yet to make a kill, relatively, the adult's talons are worn and skins look thick, like old sea dogs.
