Jurong Lake 26Nov09

From Con
I was at Jurong Lake Park this morning at just past 8am and I noticed a bird that I wasn't 100% sure, but still thought it was a Malayan Night-heron, juvenile Gorsachius melanolophus. Thanks to Kim Chuah for confirming the ID. This is a rare winter visitor & passage migrant. Roughly a couple dozen records in Singapore. In prior years, it often seems that this is a one day visitor, so if you want to see it, hurry on over. Inside the fenced up area at Jurong Lake Park. This location is quite safe for the bird, as it is behind a locked fence.

From Danny
Went over to JL around 6.30 pm. MN Heron and photographers like Sree, Mark Chua, YY Chong were around. The Heron feed regularly on worms every 3 to 4 min. Look like it will stay a while . It crest is beautiful when it sprung up during preening , too bad my scope not with me.
