Japan 8Oct06

From Yamane

I went to Akiya/Yokosuka city. It's one hour from my house to there by car. Today's birding was Raptor watch.

In Japan, I think, 21-Sep. and this weekend are the peak of Raptor migrating. On 21-Sep., more than 2000 raptors (mainly Gray-faced Buzzard-Eagle) migrated in middle region of Japan. Yesterday, somebody saw about 200 Gray-faced Buzzard-Eagle there.

This is the birdlist of today 6:40am-10am.
(1) Great Cormorant
(2) Osprey 2
(3) Eastern Honey Buzzard 2
(4) Black Kite 10+
(5) Gray-faced Buzzard-Eagle 200+
(6) Common Buzzard 1
(7) Sparrow Hawk (cannot identify it) 1
(8) Peregrine Falcon 1
(9) Eurasian Kestrel 1
(10) Bamboo Partridge
(11) White-rumped Swift 5+
(12) Brown-eared Bulbul
(13) Varied Tit
(14) Jay
(15) Jungle Crow

Many birders! They are counting raptors. They were always contacting other birders of other points, using HP.
