Henderson Waves 31Oct20

Another weekend, another baking session. This time 9:45am - 2pm. In addition to the usual OHBs and sparrowhawks, there were many Black Bazas, a few buteos, a Grey-faced Buzzard and an Eastern Marsh Harrier. Not bad!

It's raptor watch from 11am to 4pm. There were no big flocks, but came they did in ones, twos, threes and the biggest group was 4. Today, the only migrant raptors were OHBs and sparrowhawks (Japanese and Chinese).

Pasir Ris Park 14Oct20

The famous one-eyed Buffy Fish-Owl. and its relative, the Sunda Scops-Owl continued to show well at Pasir Ris Park.

Collared Kingfisher nesting in a hole in a Rain Tree.


Dragonflies: male Common Chaser and male Scarlet Grenadier.


Butterflies: Chocolate Pansy (top left), Common Tit (top right), Dark Brand Bushbrown (bottom left), and Short Banded Sailor (bottom right).


Carinate Locust is not likely to be confused with other grasshoppers.


Rufous-legged Grasshopper is another unmistakable species.


Japanese Rice Grasshopper Oxya japonica and Spathosternum prasiniferum can be confused, but look out for the latter's distinctive wing and flank patterns.


Short-winged Rice Grasshoppers is very common here and can be told apart from the two species above by a line of pale spots between the thorax and abdomen, short wing, and red hind legs.


It's harder to tell the species for these grasshopper nymphs.


Golden-spotted Tiger Beetle prowled the ground, while this Ropalidia wasp prowled the air.


Ricanula stigmatica planthopper and stilt-legged fly.
