Jurong Lake 20-21Sep09

From Danny on 20Sep

Today, late morning was at Jurong Lake for about 30 min, nothing new except male Yellow-rumped FC on tree outside the 2nd floral unit (tree has a rope tied to a mango tree). Last Sunday, seen a female FC.

Subsequently, went over to Japanese Garden, met Willie Foo who was looking for FC. Walked over the bridge to Chinese Garden, to the right of bridge were a couple of photographers fixated on a female FC that kept returning to the same bushes at edge of lake. Went further and outside the restroom among the trees at edge of lake were at least two female FC and a couple of Arctic Warblers.

Crossing the bridge back to JG, on the left met another group of photographers who were clicking away at the friendly, juv. Plaintive Cuckoo.

Migrant season in full swing, expect new arrivals every week at CG/JG.

From Con on 21Sep

I followed Danny's tip, and sure enough the Yellow-rumped Flycatcher (male) is still there. Today he was across the road from the mango tree in the fenced up area. It took quite awhile to find him, but finally I did. He wasn't very cooperative, so the shots I got were a bit blocked.

But he sure is a beauty. There was also a female YRFC and an Asian Brown Flycatcher, and an Arctic Warbler to complete the list of migrants. Residents included a Lineated Barbet, orioles, sunbirds, tailorbirds, koels and of course the ever present mynas.
